Practice Professional Networking
I attended the Entrepreneurship Club’s
event on April 10, 2018. Jordan Robarge, who is the founder of Revival Chili,
spoke to us about having a business in the food industry and how to be successful.
Here is the link
to Revival Chili.
Revival Chili
opened in the spring of 2017. Their main goal is to positively impact every
single person’s life that the business touches. Jordan says that it is more
than just the chili or success. He explains that it is about creating job
opportunities for people with criminal history. He wants to help ex-cons
re-enter society with an employment opportunity. Jordan wants to help each
employee launch their own food business or food truck.
Jordan answered
many questions. He was asked about some difficulties of starting his own
business. His answer was that it was difficult to get the money to buy his food
truck. To be able to get the money he decided to move his business to a partnership,
which is a business owned by two or more people. By doing this, he was able to
buy his food truck.
The article I
found that related most to this event is in Harvard Business Review. The
article is called “Before You Start a Business, Listen to Your Ego” by David
Lidow. The article is basically just saying that you cannot start your business
for selfish reasons. All entrepreneurs start a business because they believe
they had a great idea the world needed. In reality they are not being
realistic. This reminded me of Jordan because he started his business as a sole
proprietorship, but because of money issues, he knew the best thing to do was
to have his business be a partnership.
